Record of the Week: Volume 2

Record of the Week Volume TwoI hope you all had a wonderful day with family or friends yesterday! This time of the year is my absolute favorite. I'm an extremely sentimental and sappy person by nature, so the warmth that comes with this season truly makes me feel like I can be myself more than usual. I think our culture tends to be hard on those of us who are sentimental and warm- they are traits that are viewed as being fake or phony. I've been told NUMEROUS times in my life that I don't seem genuine when I express my feelings or thoughts, which is a bummer because I'm not one to falsify my feelings- I act how I want to act and say what I'm thinking. I just TRULY like sweet and lovely things, okay?! (I mean, I'm not all sugar plums and puppies- there's a sarcastic and witty side in there too and I DO love Edgar Allan Poe and watching Six Feet Under!)

Anyway, the point of that tangent was supposed to be that I LOVE CHRISTMAS. Now that Thanksgiving is over, I'm free to let my Christmas freak flag fly. I'm serious...it's a near obsession. I spend all year thinking about Christmas. Once December 1st is in my sights, I am giddy and I feel like it's MY TIME! Part of this has to do with the fact that my birthday is in December and it's the time where us Sagittarians get to reign, but at the end of it all we get to celebrate with sparkles and gold and friends and family and SO MUCH LOVE. I mean, my freaking middle name is NOEL guys. I was born for this. Record of the Week Volume Two Record of the Week is going to have a pretty specific theme from here until the end of December. I'm starting with A Very She & Him Christmas by She & Him. A lot of people hate on Zooey Deschanel for the very reasons I listed above, so I feel for her. I think she's adorable and hilarious, and I love She & Him. I've been listening to M. Ward since his album Transistor Radio came out, so this duo has been a match made in heaven for me from the start. And for someone who loves Christmas music? This album doesn't disappoint. It obviously has a retro feel (like all of their music) and it's perfect for this time of the year. It's very stripped down, which can be a nice break from other Christmas albums. It's also a bit darker and moodier than you would expect it to be and I mean that as a compliment- it's nice to have a variety! "Baby, It's Cold Outside" and "Christmas Day" are my favorites on this album. I strongly recommend snuggling up on the couch while admiring the tree and sipping on eggnog while listening to this one! xx Courtney
